FLYTE, NASHVILLE

REFIT

SEPTEMBER 2016

In October 2016, FLYTE DINING AND WINE had been the stage of success for ten years. The owners wanted to celebrate restaurant's 10th anniversary with a new design which would keep FLYTE exciting and current in a market of new competition, attract new guests, and bring an atmosphere of adventure.

DESIGN CONCEPT

1. Traditional materials in contemporary interpretation, and elegant, unique solutions

2. Achieve functional requirements through objects with artistic quality

3. Make FLYTE’s new look intriguing to its current clientele and attractive to sophisticated people of various ages who are tired of repetitive and overwhelming industrial design.

ENTRANCE TOWER AND SCREENS
The proposed tower reaches all the way to the ceiling in visual accompaniment to the chimney. It is a construction of common drywall, treated with concrete veneer, in a vertical extension of one of the most common, beautiful and essential materials in FLYTE: concrete. The tower fulfills the functional requirement for more wardrobe space, is also a visual highlight of the entrance and long kitchen wall.
A wooden screen separates the entrance from the bar and main dining area; the dining area doesn’t open up at first sight – it is not displayed immediately and makes the guests wonder what is ahead – an effect of mystery / intrigue.

DINING ROOM PARTITIONS
Deconstructing book shelves and arranging them into these unique screens creates functional art pieces of the available material.
This design is created of the exact measurements of 4 book shelves, and creates a larger vertical barrier with a slimmer footprint. The panels could hang as a mobile or stand fixed on rebar.

SLIDING SCREEN between the kitchen and the dining room allow visual continuity of the space. Warm wood material and color soften the white (sterile) kitchen. The kitchen stadium becomes more intimate, yet not isolated.
Their appearance - design, makes them an object of art. Their transparency changes from different points of view, which brings another quality to the space - it becomes dynamic.

BACK WALL SCREEN
Placing a screen on the zig-zag wall as a companion to the screen at the entrance emphasizes the symmetry and wholeness of the space. It also evens the cascade of the wall and separates (hides) activity in the area behind it from the guests sitting in front of it.
